The one I kept

I didn't start out building cabinets. I started as a furniture maker, building pieces one at a time in my shop under the name Webb Ranch Specialties.

Over the years the work grew into what RTP Cabinets is today: ready-to-paint cabinets built to order here in Ballinger, Texas. But there's ONE piece from those early days I just couldn't let go of: my rustic toy box.

It's the piece people still call me about. Families have ordered them as toy chests, memory boxes, blanket chests and hope chests, and a lot of them are engraved with a message inside the lid for a child to find every time they open it. I build them TOUGH. My two kids and I can stand on top of one.

I kept this one around partly for nostalgia, and partly because my 2,000+ toybox customers wouldn't let me get rid of it. More than 2,000 families already have one at the foot of a bed or in a playroom.

So I've hung on to this one throwback to my furniture-maker roots, and I still build them here in Texas in limited numbers. Each one is truly one of a kind.
